As children enter adolescence, they begin separating from the nest – usually before parents are ready to let them do so.  You child who was once so close to you is suddenly defiant and angry. He still depends on you for care and support, but resents that he doesn’t have unlimited freedom to do whatever he wants. Being the parent of a teen is a delicate balance between keeping him safe and giving him the freedom to grow-up.  If you find this a difficult time, it’s important to understand that there is nothing wrong with you, and nothing wrong with your child. He isn’t going to remain the sweet and obedient child that he was just days or months ago. Feel positive about this, because it tells you that he’s maturing into a healthy adult.
